The British Council is happy to present Black Mirror the documentary named after Mat Collishaw's exhibition held at the Galleria Borghese in Rome until last February.

The exhibition was part of “Contemporary Assignments”, a project carried on in the last years at Galleria Borghese as part of The Great Shows series of programs (Dieci Grandi Mostre). Accordingly, it consists of ten exhibitions, each highlighting a great artist whose work is prominent in the gallery’s historic collection.

Mat Collishaw's "Black Mirror"  is formed of 4 artworks, each one presented in a different room of the Borghese Gallery museum: a perfect dialogue between the contemporary artworks of the artist and the outstanding paintings and sculpture on display. .

The film on the exhibition, was conceived to be more than a simple documentary: a fascinating journey of reflection by the artist who recounts his art and the inspiration behind the show. In so doing, it becomes not only a legacy of the project but also a work of art in itself thanks to the talented eye of its director Elisa Fuksas. Under her artistic vision, the story of the exhibition unwinds over three locations: London where Mat Collishaw has his studio; Venice where the artist works with local artisans to produce the intricate glass frames of his artworks; and finally Rome, where the artworks were installed within the sumptuous rooms of the Borghese Gallery.

Currently the film is being broadcast by our media partner in Italy, Sky Arte, with a view to broadcasting it internationally (check programme schedule below).
