British Council Italy: Celebrating 80 Years of Cultural Connections

Since 1945, the British Council has been building bridges between the UK and Italy through education, culture, and the arts. In 2025, we mark our 80th anniversary—a milestone to celebrate our shared achievements and the lasting relationships we have fostered.

A Legacy of Collaboration

For eight decades, we have connected thousands of students, educators, policymakers, academics, creatives, and entrepreneurs across Italy. From supporting English language learning to fostering international partnerships in the arts, education, and science, our work continues to strengthen cultural ties between our two nations.

80th Anniversary Highlights

Creative Writing Competition with the British Embassy in Rome

Kicking off our anniversary celebrations, we launched a Creative Writing Competition (January–March 2025) in collaboration with the British Embassy in Rome. Open to students aged 6–18 across Lazio; the competition invited young people to imagine a day in the life of their favourite literary characters.

On 9 April 2025, we hosted a special finalist celebration at a state school in Rome, where Her Majesty The Queen met participating students and celebrated their creative achievements.
