scritture giovani 2016: much ado about nothing
Scritture Giovani is a project devised by Festivaletteratura, to promote young European writers. It started in 2002 with the support of the European Union’s Cultural Programme and has continued with increasing success. It involves several of Europe’s major literary festivals - Festivaletteratura, Hay Festival (United Kingdom), Internationales Literaturfestival Berlin (Germany).
This year, Scritture Giovani asked authors Ilaria Gaspari, Mercedes Lauenstein, Nina Polak and British author Rebecca F. John to celebrate Shakespeare’s anniversary in style. The challenge was to tap into the dark chords of drama and the lighter and more hilarious ones of comedy, to weave and reveal plots, and invent with the same ready fantasy roles for protagonists and characters with a single line only, to mix the bitter with the sweet to offer us once again the pleasure of literature.
