Module 1 Making a good first impression:

  • Overview of the various routes to employment
  • Your presence, language and body language 
  • Self-analysis – experience and skills 
  • Your online presence – advantages and dangers 
  • LinkedIn - participants will have a professional profile by the end of the course

Module 2 Writing a CV:

  • CV types - standard templates, Europass, etc 
  • CVs for uploading onto employment agency websites
  • CVs for social media – key words 
  • Inserting transferable skills
  • Application forms
  • Personal statements
  • Content – adjusting and updating your CV
  • Layout – the impact on the potential employer
  • Language – Collocation & the grammar of CVs. 
  • Terminology and acronyms
  • All participants will have at least one version of their CV by the end of the course

Module 3 Writing a Cover letter:

  • Bridging the gap between the job and the CV
  • Selecting key points
  • Layout
  • Language, content and register
  • Motivational, zero experience and speculative cover letters (register review and templates)

Module 4 Applicant Tracking Systems:

  • What they can do now and in the future. 
  • Using Key Words 
  • Dealing with (ATPs)

Module 5 Interviews:

  • Doing your homework and preparing questions
  • Question prediction
  • First impressions and small talk 
  • Question types – technical and competency based
  • Face-to-face, telephone and Skype Interviews

Course Trainer: Bruce Warburton 

Before working general and business English teaching area, Bruce had experience in business to business sales and customer care in a successful quality food wholesale business. He also worked as a team leader delivering soft skills training in the corporate sector. In both of these roles he was involved in every stage of the recruitment of employees, in particular, the interviewing of candidates.
