Elizabeth I’s Letters in Italian
Italian was not only the literary language for love and romance in Elizabethan England, it was also a finely-wrought tool for negotiation and diplomacy. In examining Elizabeth I’s Italian correspondence, this seminar will highlight the major role it played in Elizabethan intellectual and political life, and will offer a guide for creating an entertaining teaching unit on court writing skills.
