Take Over is a Creative Europe co-funded initiative which sees the British Council collaborate with four performing arts organisations across Europe (Greece, Serbia, Italy and Poland) helping them to connect with 18-28 year olds. It encourages young adults to engage in the cultural life of their cities, while also providing them the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and the connections they need to kick start a career in the arts world.
During the project each organisation has established a Youth Board who will work closely with, and be mentored by, the venue staff. The Youth Board will help ensure that young people’s voices and opinions are considered in artistic programmes and visions for each venue. Each member of Youth Board will also gain valuable and practical experience on the workings of an arts organisation.
As project coordinator, the British Council aims to raise awareness of the Take Over Project and allow its legacy to live on beyond its 30 month duration. It will also play a major role in connecting the four European organisations to venues in the UK with expertise in youth audience development.
Take Over venue partners are Bios in Greece, Chorea in Poland, Kolarac in Serbia and Teatro della Limonaia in Italy.
