Lining up with Europe

This seminar takes the form of a round table exploring the innovative text European Literatures in Britain 1815-1832: Romantic Translations. It is most commonly assumed that cultural relations with Europe were cut off or radically reduced during the long years of the Napoleonic wars and their immediate aftermath.  Yet this richly documented monograph offers a new and well substantiated reading of the period in a reportage on a vital and intense activity of translation, reception and appropriation.

Diego Saglia, European Literatures in Britain 1815-1832: Romantic Translations, Cambridge University Press, 2018.

Round table coordinated by Francesca Orestano (University of Milan), with Diego Saglia (University of Parma), Francesco Rognoni (Catholic University of Milan-Brescia), Marco Canani (University of Milan), Anna Anselmo (Université de la Vallée d’Aoste).

The seminars are free of charge. Booking required.
