Virginia Woolf's Kew Gardens

The seminar analyses the subtleties of Virginia Woolf’s craft of short story writing in the famous portrayal of the beauties of Kew Gardens and the effects of WWI as lived by the visitors wandering in its grounds. Key strategies, such as the use of surface and depth and the activation of the reader’s role, will all be examined.

Martha Cooley, Professor of English at Adelphi University, New York and novelist.
